Discussion about Various - Frosty
Damdyagab
Frosty is one of the better dubby downtempo collections out there, perhaps because all the tracks exercise a degree of restraint when it comes to how dubbified they get, concentrating on slow grooves and melody, only using reverb and tonal noises for atmosphere rather than gratuitous, up-front ear candy. If you like the lazier tracks on Kruder & Dorfmeister's K&D Sessions, and can deal with percussion that's less jazzy and more trip-hoppy, then this CD is for you. The compilation does, however, have a couple of flaws - the monotonous Howie B track runs a bit too long, and the tracks by The Eff Word and Beach Flea sound somewhat dated and not up to the standard of the rest of the compilation. But everything else is high quality ambient dub, and the selection is such that all the tracks share a similar vibe, to the point where they're almost interchangeable. In this case, that's a good thing.
